This thesis analyses calligraphy,paintings and signets of Zhao Ji to further interpret the relation between his calligraphic art and social culture in the Song dynasty,and study the influences of his calligraphic art on social culture,commercial culture and literature;therefore,his contributions to future generations and the position and value of his works could be understood.This thesis adopts three methods of documentary analysis,comparative analysis and combination of images and texts and is divided into five chapters.The first chapter summarizes the objective and significance of this thesis,comments on relevant research on Zhao Ji’s calligraphic art both at home and abroad and also introduces the innovation part.The second chapter analyses policies proposed by Emperors of the Song dynasty,the economy,the culture and Zhao Ji’s early lives to figure out that his early aesthetic concept was developed by literati spirit and nurtured by imperial family.The third chapter illustrates that the styles of his calligraphic works accorded with his techniques based on his calligraphy.It focuses on the point that slender gold takes full advantages of various scripts especially regular script and cursive script.The fourth chapter is mainly about the cultural values of slender gold.It studies his paintings,poems with pictures,copybook of poetry and royally inscribed currencies,discusses the influences of his calligraphy on painting,calligraphy,literature and commercial culture,and demonstrates his aesthetic thoughts.The fifth chapter shows his contributions to future generations and his significance to the current calligraphy circle.It explains that Zhao Ji’s calligraphy has impacts on works of three: Cai Jing,Zhao Gou and Wanyan Jing,and also further studies the reflections on current calligraphic trends and works.The thesis probes into the influences of sociocultural background of Zhao Ji’s period and his early lives on his calligraphic art,and comprehensively analyses the relation between his calligraphic art and social culture in the Song dynasty.It not only investigates the humanistic background of calligraphy,his aesthetic ideas of appreciating implications and admiring the ancient cultures,and the cause and effect of his styles and social circumstances,but also interprets his works to further reveal his aesthetic orientations and contributions to current calligraphy.
