The Research On The Methodologies Of Chia-ying Yeh's Poetry Criticism

Professor Chia-ying Yeh has been engaged in the research of classical poetry theory with a deep heart since she has been teaching for 70 years.With profound classical poetry cultivation,Chia-ying Yeh always upholds a calm attitude of not blindly obeying western literary theories.She always takes the mission of inheriting Chinese poetry culture as a responsibility of herself and has made important contributions to the research of classical poetry theory and the spread of Chinese culture.We take Chia-ying Yeh's poetry theory as the background,take Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism methodologies as the research object,and take Chia-ying Yeh's triple identities of poetry research career as a clue to demonstrate the academic contributions of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism methodologies.By the means of studying Chia-ying Yeh's poetry theory,poetry criticism methodologies and their unique characteristics,we expect to achieve our research goals.The research contents of this paper mainly include the following seven parts.The introduction part mainly summarized the current status and short-part of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism research,and introduced the source and significance of this topic.In the first chapter,we summarized Chia-ying Yeh's life experience and explored the influence of her triple identities of poet,scholar,and teacher on the methodology of poetry criticism.In this sector,we divided it into two parts to start the research.On the one hand,we summarized the three stages of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry research career,and analyzed the internal relationships among her family origins,poetry scholarship and overseas academic experience which we called tripe identities of her poetry life.On the other hand,we explored the potential impacts of the tripe identities of poetry life on the development of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism methodologies.In the second chapter,we mainly overviewed Ye Jiaying's poetry theories.We divided her poetry theories into ontology,historiography and poetry criticism three aspects.First of all,on the basis of inheriting traditional literary theories,Chia-ying Yeh combined her unique perception and western feminist literary theory to reveal the aesthetic characteristics of the word "to be suitable for cultivation" which is different from poetry,and put forward the concept of "the beauty of weak morality".Secondly,we introduced the different characteristics of the three stages of poetry theories in the evolution of poetry history,and analyzed the aesthetic characteristics of each stage.Finally,we analyzed the "Xing Fa Gan Dong" theory of Chia-ying Yeh's study of poetry from the perspective of poetry creation and criticism,analyzed the causes and the three ways to convey the power of sentiment,and summarized the three major aspects of the theory.In the next chapter,we focused on the specific methods used in Chia-ying Yeh's criticism of poetics.The first is the method of sensational comprehension of chanting and sensation,which is an important method of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism and runs through all her works.Chia-ying Yeh used this traditional way to convey the sentiment in the poetries and took it as a standard for poetry criticism.The second is the art aesthetics criticism method,which opens up a new perspective of poetry criticism.The third is named historical criticism methods.We summarized it from Chia-ying Yeh's research on the evolution of poetry history.She is good at adopting historical criticism methods to analyze the inheritance relationship in the evolution of poetry style and the contributions made by important poets in the evolution of poetry history.The fourth method is the combination of new criticism and phenomenology.Chia-ying Yeh is not only good at valuing the in-depth analysis of the poetry text,but also advocating mining the relationship and influence of the external environment with the author.The fifth method is the aesthetic criticism methods.In the practice of poetry criticism,Chia-ying Yeh extensively interprets the rich meaning of the work from the perspective of the reader,and explores the aesthetic value of the words.In the following chapter we discussed the characteristics of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism methods.The first feature is traditional Chinese values aided with modern Western ideology.Chia-ying Yeh adopted some Western literary concepts to make his Chinese poetry criticism more theoretical and reasonable.She never adopted western theory forcibly,but deeply explored the deep connection between both making it natural.Secondly,the poetry criticism methods adopted by Chia-ying Yeh not only focus on excavating the artistic value of poetries but also emphasizes on communicating the ethical values.Lastly,Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism methods showed a deep humanistic concern in general.In the process of appreciating the works,Chia-ying Yeh paid special attention to the author's personality,thoughts,life experiences and other factors that affect the style of the work,which treasures the realization of the author's life value.In the fifth chapter,we discussed the significant value and contribution of Chia-ying Yeh's poetry criticism theory.First of all,Chia-ying Yeh's combination of Chinese and Western poetry criticism theories highlights the shortcomings of traditional theory.Therefore,applying modern criticism terms to combine Zhang Huiyan 's bixing theory and Wang Guowei's realm theory have found the theoretical support of linguistics,semiotics,and aesthetics.Secondly,Chia-ying Yeh inherited and developed professor Wang Guowei's view that the development of Chinese poetry criticism needs the stimulation of Western theories.Taking her own critical practice as a blueprint,Chia-ying Yeh has promoted the transformation of contemporary Chinese philosophical criticism in his poetry theory research and teaching life.At last,Chia-ying Yeh attached importance to the convey of life,which reduced the barriers to the inheritance and spread of traditional poetries.The last part is the conclusion part.In this sector,we expounded the research process,reported the main conclusions and summarized the shortcomings of our paper.
