Soldier,Physician And Confucian The Life Track Of Sheng Family Of Suzhou In Ming Dynasty

The Sheng family of Suzhou in Ming Dynasty was one of the backbones of the medical practitioners called 'Wu Traditional Chinese Medicine School' in Suzhou during the Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties.However,If we put vision into the entire Jiangnan cultural families,Sheng family of Suzhou in Ming Dynasty is undoubtedly a more special cultural family,and due to the dual factors of the individual experiences and the changes of the times,Sheng's identity has undergone multiple conversions of Confucian,soldier,and physician,which is mostly known as doctor.Therefore,whatever in modern times or imperial era,people often take the Sheng family as 'Confucian Physician family'.This research intends to explore the life trajectory of the Sheng family in Suzhou in Ming Dynasty,taking its generation and development as clues.Moreover,through the small perspective of the Sheng case,the research also tries to explore the general law of life of the 'Confucian Physician family' in Suzhou in Ming Dynasty.This article uses time as the longitude,identity as the latitude,describing in these two clues.The first chapter is a survey of the history of the Sheng family before the Ming dynasty and then the early Ming.As a kind of collective memory,the history of ancestors can have an impact in the nature of the "Father's Law" on the generations in Ming.The examination of histiry can be an explanation of some major choices of the Sheng Family in Ming.This part mainly firstly intends to clarify the imagination of ancestors' history of the generations in the Ming dynasty,and secondly the development trajectory of Sheng family in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.Additionally,this chapter initially expounded the history of the family in early Ming,especially the experience of becoming a military registered family,as another important turnpoint of the destiny of Sheng family,followed by the the influence that the transition has made to the career choice of the family.The second chapter is the investigation of the medical practice of Sheng family in Ming Dynasty.By discussing how Sheng family made friendship with other medical families and established an in-laws network,this chapter shows the way that the family establish and maintain the tradition of 'Generations as Medical Officials',which is the foundation on which the family relied to preserve its social status and conduct Confucianism.In the course of this macro-examination,Sheng Yin,as the starting point of professional medicine,can be called the representative figure of 'Confucian Physician' in the family,this chapter takes him as the case to make a microcosmic analysis of the history of the family at that time.The third chapter is the investigation of the archievement of Confucian practice of Sheng family in Ming Dynasty.Through the investigation of the achievements,it was found that,beneath the appearance of 'Generations as Medical Officials',the pursuit of Sheng family was always Confucianism,which was not significantly different from that of common Confucian families.Professional Confucian is not only the subjective tendency of Sheng descendants,but also the inertia of family history objectively.This chapter then analyzed the reasons for the prosperity of Sheng's Confucianism from both the internal and external aspects of "Confucianism from ancestors" and the donation system of medical officials,and finally concluded that in the 'Confucian Physician family' like Sheng family,medicine is always taken as the vassal of Confucianism,becoming a mean of survive that guarantees conducting Confucianism and lasting the family.It is the so-called 'Surviving in medicine,Living in Confucianism'.
