Firstly,it is embodied in the structure of love narrative of Emma.Because of the huge gap between Emma's passionate imagination of love life and Charles' s slow sensibility, their relationship after marriage can be summed up by triple aphasia. They are divided into three levels: Emma has no ability to express and reflect her love imagination, but can only imitate and consume;Charlie can't feel and respond to Emma's love imagination, and even can't distinguish the truth of Emma's cheating;Emma's cheating behavior itself can't be said. Therefore, the triple aphasia leads to the heteronomy and autonomy of disease. The so-called heteronomy of "disease" refers to Charlie's inability to distinguish Emma's external emotional fluctuation and abnormal behavior from her cheating behavior, but only to label such emotional fluctuation and abnormal behavior as "disease".To Emma, the label of “disease” is given by others including Charlie and Ohme,so it is heteronomous;however, she voluntarily admits the label, admitting that she was infected with "disease",so she has an excuse to have a tryst with her lover. Therefore, the original "disease" label of heteronomy has become the result of her independent choice, which is manifested as autonomy. It is through the fragile balance of heteronomy and autonomy of "disease" that Emma gets the chance to indulge her love imagination. As a result, she breaks the balance of "disease" duality and ends her own life. From this we can see that "disease" plays the most critical narrative function for this love narrative centered on Emma.Secondly,it constitutes the basic structure of social critical narrative with pharmacist Ohme as the core.By analyzing the relationship between Flaubert and the mainstream social thoughts in France in the same period,it is not difficult to find that he has a strong satirical attitude, whether it is royalists, bourgeois liberals or socialism. This kind of satire is embodied in the shaping of the image of Ohme.He imitated the French bourgeois liberals since the enlightenment in the ways of talking. It is around Emma's "disease" that Ohme has elucidated the most "informed opinion" and constantly breeds the bubbles of words. At the same time, readers who have a clear understanding of the truth of Emma's disease can make judgments.Ohme's words seem to refer to external objects, but in fact they are empty. The referential function of discourse is cancelled, and the expressive function of discourse is highlighted, thus achieving outstanding satirical effect. Finally, starting from the distinction of narrative function and symbolic meaning, around the description of "disease",the paper makes a comparative analysis of Madame Bovary,Lady Camelli,Nana and The Plague. It can be found that in the other three novels, the description of "disease" shows a very strong tendency, which goes beyond the narrative link composed of story plot, character relationship, event conflict and so on,serving for purposes other than narrative, such as restraining readers' moral stand, arousing readers' emotional response, expressing the author's social critical thoughts and ethical concepts, etc. In Madame Bovary,Flaubert mainly uses a "disease response" mode to complete the detailed description of "disease",so as to close the "disease" in the text world. This way of avoiding the author's subjective voice is highly consistent with Flaubert's social thought and the creative idea of "art for art sake".
