"Reading circles" focuses on the cultivation of students' reading ability in English reading teaching,which is an effective teaching form to help students improve their reading performance,form a positive reading attitude and cultivate the sense of cooperation.The specific steps of "reading circles" teaching model are "reading-thinking connecting-sharing-evaluating".In this model,students participate in reading activities actively,experience reading happiness and learn to cooperate and share.Their roles are transformed from traditional participants to organizers and leaders.Due to the importance of students' English reading ability,reading teaching has always been a hot topic in the research field,which has attracted the attention of many experts and scholars.Reading literacy is also considered as the core literacy of high school students.It can be seen that in junior middle school English reading learning,we should increase the proportion of extensive reading in reading,and pay enough attention to student-centered teaching.The study attempts to apply a student-centered teaching model,"reading circles" raised by a scholar,Mark Furr,to the junior English class,aiming to probe into the following three questions:(1)Can the teaching mode of "reading circles" improve junior middle school students' English reading performance?(2)Can the teaching mode of "reading circles" improve junior middle school students' English reading attitude?(3)Can the teaching mode of "reading circles" enhance the cooperative consciousness of junior middle school students?In this study,two parallel classes of Grade 8 in Zhangjiakou Dongfang middle school were selected as control class and experimental class.Among them,the control class students take the traditional reading teaching,while the experimental class students accept the "reading circles" teaching method.In order to ensure the scientificity of the research results,both the control class and the experimental class use Middle School Students Reading Newspapers as extensive reading materials and the amount of reading teaching hours is consistent with the amount of extracurricular reading,and the experimental period is 12 weeks.The experiment mainly used the quantitative method.Before and after experiment,pre-test,post-test and questionnaires were respectively implemented to all the participants,and the data from them would be analyzed by SPSS 22.0.The result shows that:(1)The teaching model of "reading circles" can improve junior middle school students' English reading performance.(2)The teaching model of "reading circles" can improve junior middle school students' English reading attitude.(3)The teaching model of "reading circles" can enhance the cooperative consciousness of junior middle school students.The experimental results show that the "reading circles" teaching mode is feasible in junior middle school English reading class.This method not only improves students' reading performance,forms a positive reading attitude,but also cultivates students' sense of cooperation in learning.
