The methods of creation had always been an important part of the study of the art theory. However,in the contemporary era,the study of the creative methods have not received the attention they deserve.Far away from being guided by conscious creative methods,The artistic creation shows a spontaneous tendency. As a result, artistic creations are spontaneous and unable to achieve healthy development. Therefore,it is important to re-emphasize the importance of creative methods,It is very necessary to rethink the development of creative methods. This article tries to start with the three Western artists Leonardo da Vinci,Delacroix and Pollock who represent the three creative methods of traditional realism, modern romanticism and modern abstractionism.Based on case studies,Combing the evolution and changes of creative methods..The basic content of this thesis is divided into four chapters besides introduction and conclusion. The first chapter describes the creative methods and basic theoretical issues, this chapter analysed the creative methods and components, and it pointed out the criteria for the classification of creative methods and the existing problems in the existing classification,It also divides the creative method into three basic categories: realism, romanticism and abstractism, and analyses the commonness and individuality of the creative methods, and also explores the basic rules of the ideal creative methods.Starting from the second chapter, which mainly focuses on the comparison of Leonardo da Vinci’s,Delacroix’s and Pollock’s creative methods, the angle of comparison perspectives are: the development of the artist’s object appearance, the development of the artist’s subjective appeal, and the evolution and changes of the viewer’s acceptance dimension.Judging from the object forms presented by the artists, the three great artists have obvious differences in the correspondence between the artistic image and the living prototype, and big differences in the world of art and the symbolic system presented by the artistic creation. In terms of the artist’s subjective appeal, whether the artistic creation is a serious business or a relaxed game,or not, whether their pursuit of artistic creation depends mainly on reality or on beauty or not,All reflects the difference between these three artists. From the perspective of audiences and receptivities, the three artists have appreciators who belong to different times.Their reception modes are also different, and there are differences in the degree of difficulty of acceptance. The evolution of western creative methods is not a simple progress. The emergence of abstractionism has a full awareness of aesthetic pursuit, but it is faced with a situation like a song of a highbrow type that finds very few people to join in the chorus. On the contrary, traditional realism and romanticism are more easily accepted by the majority of appreciators, especially romanticism,It has its convenience in terms of cognitive and aesthetic acceptance, and It deserves more attention in contemporary creation.
