Vocabulary is the basis of language learning,and vocabulary plays an important role in English teaching.Through the study of The New Standard English Curriculum(2017)and the College Entrance Examination paper of 2018,the author finds that vocabulary requirements for students are high in reading comprehension and writing.Students are required to learn compulsory words and expressions as well as words and expressions beyond their text book.However,in our country,vocabulary is still the biggest difficulty for students to learn English.Faced with this topic,how to make teachers perform vocabulary teaching smoothly and efficiently has naturally become a very important issue.Therefore,the author combines high school English vocabulary teaching with the scaffolding instruction and explores its impact.In order to explore how to teach vocabulary effectively,and verify the rationality of this teaching method,the contents of this study are as follows: Firstly,based on the theoretical research,the author puts forward the scaffolding instruction,and applies it to the senior high school English vocabulary teaching.Secondly,in order to explore the impact of the teaching method on students’ vocabulary learning attitudes,vocabulary learning habits and vocabulary learning methods,and to get the final research results,the author carries out a three-month teaching practice in Class X of Grade One of a key senior high school in Xiangtan City,and collects data and information through questionnaires and interviews.Finally,based on the findings of the study,the author has a reflection on the scaffolding instruction in vocabulary teaching,and puts forward suggestions to further improve the scaffolding instruction.Through the practical application of the scaffolding instruction in vocabulary lesson and the analysis of questionnaire and interview results,this study finds that: firstly,compared with traditional vocabulary teaching methods,the scaffolding instruction in vocabulary teaching stimulates junior high school students’ vocabulary learning interest;secondly,compared with traditional vocabulary teaching methods,the scaffolding instruction in vocabulary teaching enhances their awareness of autonomous and cooperative learning;thirdly,compared with traditional vocabulary teaching methods,the scaffolding instruction in vocabulary teaching improves junior high school students’ vocabulary learning methods.In addition,the author also summarizes three suggestions to further improve the scaffolding instruction:(1)In the aspect of coherence teaching,we can link the procedures of the scaffolding instruction coherently by increasing the process of preview.(2)In terms of enhancing the efficiency of vocabulary learning,we can improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning in scaffolding vocabulary lesson by increasing the process of review.(3)In terms of enriching the forms of scaffolding,we can build various scaffolds to enhance the interest of vocabulary lesson.
