Comprehension And Memory In Interpretation From The Perspective Of Schema Theory Based On The English Interpretation Of Speeches By Premier Li Keqiang In 2018

Comprehension and memory are two important links in the process of interpretation,and accurate comprehension and memory are the premises of high-quality interpretation.Schema,as a significant part of cognitive psychology,which has gradually been applied in the research of interpretation,provides a new perspective for the research of improving the ability of comprehension and memory in interpreting.The writer attempts to analyze the influence and function of schema on the comprehension and memory of English and Chinese interpretation process based on the interpretation of speeches made by Chinese leader Li Keqiang in 2018.The contents of the political speeches are often more comprehensive and rigorous,therefore interpreters should not only have a good language foundation,but also master the schema knowledge needed for interpretation in order to interpret more accurately.In the theoretical chapter,the writer mainly introduces the history of development,definition,classification of Schema Theory and the roles of different schema in interpreting activities so as to lay a foundation for the case analysis of the following part.Before analyzing the specific cases,the writer introduces the factors that cause the difficulties of the comprehension and memory in the process of interpretation.In the part of chapter of case analysis,taking the speeches by Premier Li Keqiang in 2018 as corpus,this thesis analyzes the roles of Schema Theory playing in the comprehension and memory during interpreting.The linguistic schema can be regarded as the homologous knowledge like English phonetics,morpheme,grammar of the source language and target language.The content schema refers to the background knowledge of text content.The formal schema is regarded as the types of forms of literature,structure,figure of speech and some other things of disparate texts.Based on the case analysis using the linguistic schema,content schema and formal schema,the conclusion can be drawn that the Schema Theory has the positive effects on comprehension andmemory in interpreting.Finally,in the conclusion part,through the analysis of examples of the speeches given by Chinese leader Li Keqiang,this thesis comes to the conclusion that the Schema Theory is effective for improving the abilities of comprehension and memory during the interpretation process.Interpreters should establish complete and sufficient Schema Theory knowledge so as to improve the quality of interpretation.
