New World Of Literature In The Perspective Of Darnton's New Cultural History

The New Cultural History rose in the 1970 s.Professor Robert Darnton is one of the representatives of this school of history.Darnton concentrated on the underground literature and "middleman" in the literary history,and focused on the study of the dissemination of books and the reading behavior of readers in the broad cultural history and social history,forming his own unique new cultural history research.His New Cultural History is the "alliance" between history and literature,which is closely related to literature.In the perspective of New Cultural History,he used new methods to excavate new historical materials and restored the underground literary world before the French revolution.This paper will summarize the new world of French literature discovered by Darnton in the study of New Cultural History,analyze the reference of Darnton's study of New Cultural History to literature,and discuss the enlightenment of Darnton's study of New Cultural History to the study of literary history combined with his suggestions for the study of literary history.At the same time,from the perspective of Darnton's New Cultural History,we re-examine the study of literary history and put forward some ideas on the development trend of literary history.This paper will be divided into three parts:The foreword elaborates the significance of this study.And this part combs the the current research status of Robert Darnton's New Cultural History in the history circle and the research ideas of this paper.The main part is divided into three chapters.The first chapter summarizes the relationship between Darnton's New Cultural History and literature.Darnton's study of New Cultural History introduces literary works as materials,narrative style of storytelling,and even seeks to integrate literary theory.The second chapter mainly discusses the other side of the literary world during the French Revolution,which Darnton explored in the study of New Cultural History.This underground literary world consists of literary underground,censors,prohibited books,publishers,printers,transporters,booksellers and readers.These people organically formed a process of literary activities from underground literary writing to censorship,publishing and reading.In this process,people came into contact with the enlightenment thought and gradually began to question the rule of the old system.The third chapter combs Darnton's views on literary history from three aspects,summarizes his suggestions for the study of literary history: from the perspective of intermediaries,best-selling banned books and circulation of communication,we can get newresearch horizons,new research materials and new research paths.The conclusion summarizes the research methods and perspectives of Darnton's New Cultural History.It also tries to re-examine the history of literature and think about its future development in the perspective of Darnton's New Cultural History...
