The Influence Of Horizontal And Vertical Body Movement Trends On Moral Judgment

Previous research on moral judgment found that the process of moral judgment is not always the result of cognitive reasoning,and is often caused by intuition.When individuals make moral judgments,they are affected by factors such as social culture,language,and experience of sensory movements.Then,this study will use behavioral experiments to explore whether Chinese subjects ’judgment of moral dilemma will be affected by body movement trends,and whether Chinese subjects’ moral judgment standards are metaphorically linked to which body movement direction,horizontal or vertical.Study 1 uses the Right-wing Authoritarianism(RWA)scale and the Social Dominance Orientation(SDO)scale to measure the social attitudes of the subjects,in order to explore whether the social attitudes of Chinese subjects will have an impact on moral judgment standards.The results show that the correlation between the social attitudes of Chinese subjects and the results of moral judgment is not significant,excluding the possible impact of individual differences in social attitude tendencies on moral judgment.The three experiments in Study 2 are all 2×2 mixed experiment designs.Each experiment has 80 college students.The three experiments of Study 2 operated the subjects’ psychological tendency and body movement tendency in the horizontal direction by changing the horizontal visual field position,psychological walking direction,and body movement tendency.It was found that the position of the visual field had no significant effect on the standards of moral judgment,the differences in psychological walking directions and body movement trends were only significant in determining whether or not,and the differences in moral scores were not significant.The three experiments in Study 3 are all 2×2 mixed experiment designs.Each experiment has 80 college students.The three experiments of Study 3 operated the subjects’ vertical mental tendency and physical movement tendency by changing the vertical visual field position,psychological walking direction,and body movement tendency.It was foundthat visual field position,psychological tendency,and body movement trend had significant differences in judgment and moral score.Summarized the results of the three studies,Chinese participants have moral metaphor connections in both the horizontal and vertical directions.When the priming direction of psychological tendencies and body movement trends is toward the right,it appears as a stricter moral judgment standard,and when the priming direction is toward the left,it appears as a more relaxed moral judgment standard.When the priming direction of psychological tendencies and body movement trends is directed downward,it appears as a stricter moral judgment standard,and when the priming direction is directed upward,it appears as a more relaxed moral judgment standard.
