Teaching Chinese as a second language is shouldering the heavy responsibility of spreading Chinese culture overseas.In the history of cultural exchanges between China and the West,the sinologists have played an bimportant role.As a country with a long history and cultural tradition,France has always been the main part of Sinology in the West.At the end of the 19 th and early 20 th centuries,a large number of French sinologists with a strong interest in Chinese culture and a positivist spirit came to China.They carried out a lot of practice,enriching the connotation of French sinology and promoting cultural exchanges between China and France.Among these sinologists,Marcel Granet(1884-1940)was a very representative innovator.In his early years,he received a good education in history and sociology,then he entered the door of Sinology by following Edouard Chavannes.During his life,Granet had two visits to China.Innovatively,he combined with the practice experience in China,sociology and anthropology and other different disciplines by empirical methods into the study of Sinology,to achieve the integration of comprehensive history and Sinology.His main works,"Chinese Civilization" and "Chinese Thoughts" are still an important reference for the West to understand the Chinese thought world,and they have also established the status of Granet as the master of Chinese Studies.Granet devoted all his life to the study of sinology.He has held important positions in a number of Chinese studies institutions in France,actively promoting Chinese culture while committed to the cultivation of the descendants of Chinese studies.He also led the establishment of Institut des Hautes Etudes chinoises(IHEC)which contains both Chinese language teaching and Chinese studies,has had a significant impact.His life and experience is enough to provide many enlightenments for the major of Teaching Chinese as a second language.This thesis attempts to introduce the historical background of French professional sinology,the life and experience of Granet's chinese studies,analyzes and combs his representative's "Chinese Civilization",and summarizes his research methods and historical status.Finally,the ways and strategies of Chinese Culture's spread to the outside world,the goal and practice of Teaching Chinese as a second language are rethought.It is the practical way to "going out" of Chinese culture by strengthening Sino-foreign cooperation to enrich the way of culturalcommunication,and to complete the "going out" of Chinese culture by using the power of other countries and classical external translation.In addition,the major of Teaching Chinese as a second language to train students is similar to Granet: love of Chinese culture,willing to go out of the classroom to personally contact the community.This requires us to integrate the curriculum into more cultural elements,to teach at different levels,so that students can seek truth in practice and strive to cultivate their sense of identity with Chinese culture.
