The text for the translation practice in this report is an excerpt from Hunger, the first novella of Chinese-American female writer Lan Smantha Chang. The writer of this novel uses multiple narrative techniques which have given the novel a unique style and thus achieved a high literary value. The soul of novel translation depends on the quality of reproducing of the literary style of the novel.A successful novel must contain the writer's ingenious narrative techniques. In the process of novel translation, only when the translator is fully aware of this, can he or she convey the content of the novel faithfully and reproduce the narrative characteristics, literary charm and aesthetic value of the novel successfully. Therefore, the translator takes reproducing the narrative style of the novel in the target text to the greatest extent as the major goal of this translation task.In this novel, the temporal narrative is featured as the interlaced nonlinear narrative of present tense and past tense, which reflects the time concept peculiar to minority women. The translator adopts the methods of adding temporal markers and minimizing temporal differences based on different occasions. From the perspective of spatial narrative, the novel presents readers with both physical space and psychological space in many cases. In view of this, the translator attaches great importance to the shift of space in translation by emphasizing physical space and psychological space in different situations. In addition, the writer also tries to convey the unspeakable reality of life to the readers by hauntological narrative. As a result, the living and the dead shuttle back and forth between the reality and the dream. Therefore, the translator pays a lot attention to the effects of the character's view and the omniscient view in the translation process.Through the above measures, the translator has reproduced the narrative style and artistic charm of the novel to a great extent. The author, through this translation practice, has fully become aware of the importance and difficulties of the reproduction of narrative style in fiction translation. She has also enhanced her understanding on the literary translation practice. It is the author's hope that this practice report could provide some reference to other translators or scholars who are engaged in similar translation tasks.
