A Comparative Study On Revenge Psychology Of Jefferson Hope And Kouichirou Munesue

A Study in Scarlet is the first case in the Sherlock Holmes by British detective novelist Conan Doyle,which tells the story of young American Jefferson Hope's revenge on Mormonism for his lover Lucy;Proof of the Man is the most famous work in "The Trilogy of Proof" by Japanese detective novelist Seiichi Morimura,which tells the revenge story of the police Kouichirou Munesue,he has a desire for vengeance to the whole society and the dark side of human nature because of his childhood trauma.Revenge is the clue that often runs through the full text in most detective novels,which affects the plot structure of the novel that has a very important significance.By analyzing the novel,we find that the two avengers in A Study in Scarlet and Proof of the Man represent two types of revenge stories in detective novels,namely,direct and indirect revenge.Then,if we compare the psychology of avengers with different revenge methods,it will provide a new perspective and field for the study of detective novels.This thesis analyzes the revenge psychology of Hope and Kouichirou through the interdisciplinary research method of literature and psychology.The aim is to make a comparative study on the revenge psychology of the two to reveal how the author comprehensively uses therevenge psychology of the characters to promote the development of the story plot and construct the narrative structure of the detective novel.Through the analysis of the two revenge characters,we find that the emergence of revenge psychology is the result of the joint action of both internal and external factors,the internal cause is the need to balance the psychology after the subject's own interests have been infringed,and the external cause is the oppression of the subject by the atrocious environment;From the nature of revenge psychology and the formation pattern of the two,revenge psychology can be divided into two types:paranoid type and rational type,and formation pattern can be divided into sudden change type and gradual change type;Revenge psychology can have positive or negative effect on characters,which makes them have different future;On the basis of the above analysis,we can know that when the revenge psychology of the characters is the cause of the case,there is only one story line in the novel,and at the end part focuses on the reasons for the revenge of the avenger,which makes the novel present a single structure and a linear narrative structure,which provides a creative template for many detective novels in later generations.When the revenge psychology of the character is an important factor to the detection of the case,many story lines are set up in the novel,and the related deeds and psychological activities of the avengers are mentionedin each story line,which makes the novel present a repetitive structure and a nonlinear narrative structure,and provides a new idea for the creation of detective novels.
