Goya(1746-1828)was Spain’s greatest realist painter from the second half of the 18 th century to the early 19 th century.His works are rooted in the Spanish national cultural tradition,closely linked with the social environment and their own contradictions,and through innovative methods of expression and artistic language,he has created his unique artistic style of painting,which truly reflects the life of the times and satirizes and criticizes the society.The romantic tendency in Goya’s paintings analyzed in this article refers to the tendency or signs with romantic characteristics or romantic painting skills that artists show in their creations intentionally or unintentionally.This concept will run through the article and combine Goya’s works with romantic analysis.In the first chapter,the author gives an overview of the 18 th and 19 th century Spanish art heritage of Goya’s time,briefly analyzes and studies the origin and connotation characteristics of the romantic art movement,and after combing Goya’s artistic life,divides the artist’s creation process into three sections: the early works were mostly drawn by the royal weaving factory,with bright colors and happy painting styles;The satirical methods of the mid-term works began to be added to the creation,accompanied by imagination and strange elements.Late paintings were bolder in drawing and writing the heart,and black was used as the main color in creation.The connotation of Goya’s creation in different periods is different from the romantic tendency vaguely reflected in his painting features.Chapters II to IV respectively analyze,summarize and compare his representative works in early,middle and late stages.The second chapter,through the analysis of Goya’s early works,concludes that his early paintings contain a negative romantic attitude of sending love tothe countryside.And through the comparison with Huatuo’s works,the romantic tendency in Goya’s early works is displayed more intuitively.The third chapter focuses on the analysis of the print suite "Fantasia" created in the middle period.Firstly,it makes a comprehensive explanation.Secondly,it explores the painting characteristics with romantic tendency by distinguishing the themes of the suite.Thirdly,it finds the change of positive romantic tendency in Goya’s works in the middle period by comparing the works with those of the romantic painter Friedrich.The fourth chapter is to explore the late paintings,and to analyze the aesthetics of romantic paintings represented by the series of "black paintings" murals as the main body,and to find out the satire on the society in Goya’s works,the positive romanticism tendency of resolutely fighting "good" and "evil" in combination with the commonness of current political themes and romantic painters in Goya’s late works.Finally,in the conclusion part,the author demonstrates and summarizes the reasons for the formation of romantic tendencies in Goya’s art,its far-reaching influence on later generations’ art and its "romantic pioneer" status in its achievements.
