Doris Lessing is an outstanding contemporary English female writer.Her works cover a wide range of topics with various writing styles.Concerning about middle-aged and elderly women is a significant part in her writings,which reflects her humanitarian concerns.Partly because of her own age,Lessing turns her eyes to the old age group,which has been on the margins of society and being ignored by society for a long term.From her unique writing perspectives,she describes the plight of the elderly that she didn't notice when she was young.With the aging of the world,the elderly have long existed as a marginal group and have been habitually ignored.It is of great practical significance to study the middle-aged and elderly women in Lessing's works.This paper mainly discusses the plight and dilemma of the middle-aged and older women facing in love,again.First of all,the middle-aged and older women are doubly oppressed by gender and age.Because of the prevailing ageism,they lose themselves and fall into the dilemma of not being able to face up to their advanced age.Secondly,middle-aged and older women cannot face up to their emotions because they are deprived of the right to love and be loved.At the same time,their emotional needs are often ignored by families and society,and they fall into the dilemma that their emotional needs cannot be satisfied.Finally,with the decline of their physical conditions,middleaged and older women linger between the two roles of caregiver and the one being cared for.While they feel the increasing pressure,some elderly women are also trapped in the plight of unattended.The dilemma of middle-aged and elderly women is not only caused by physiological factors,but also the product of traditional ageism.With the coming of the aging society,it is necessary to strengthen the research on age culture and create a healthy and natural culture of old women.
