With the development of globalization,cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries have become more frequent.Chinese have had a stronger acceptance of foreign cultures in recent years.As a cultural carrier,novels are of great significance for promoting cultural exchanges.The House with the High Wall written by Authur Gask is a crime fiction with fascinating stories.The novel mainly tells some stories caused by an emerald necklace,and also deeply explores human nature.The translation process has been completed under the guidance of the functional equivalence proposed by Eugene A.Nida.This translation practice report focuses on the usage of functional equivalence in the process of translating The House with the High Wall.The report is aimed at discussing how to reproduce the world of the novel in Chinese under the theory of functional equivalence.There are a large number of psychological and action depictions in the novel,which are of great importance to be tackled in the translation.Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory can effectively solve the problems of effect in the language transformation between two languages.The translator tries to accurately convey the original text information by finding the proper methods and strategies of translation.In the process of translation,the translator uses a variety of translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,addition and omission etc.The translation report is divided into five chapters: introduction of translation task,the theoretical frame,translation process,the case study,and conclusion.The first chapter mainly includes the research background and translation significance;the second chapter briefly introduces Eugene Nida's functional equivalence;the third chapter introduces three stages of translation process: pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation;the fourth chapter mainly includes cases and case analyses;the fifth chapter describes the related thinking for the study and enlightenment for the future researches.
