With the requirements of the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School(2017 Edition)and the reform trend of the college entrance examination,improving students' reading comprehension ability is the inevitable requirement in the English teaching process.As for high school students,there are still many problems in reading,which leads to a slower improvement in their reading comprehension ability.Diagnostic assessment is the educational assessment with its characteristics and advantages of “diagnosis”.As to the research results of domestic and foreign literature,it is not difficult to see that the application of the diagnostic assessment in the teaching process has been fully affirmed,but there are few practical application studies on the reading comprehension of high school students.This thesis intends to find out the main reading comprehension problems of high school students through the application of diagnostic assessment in the questionnaire and comprehensive analysis of test papers,and to explore a way to improve high school students' reading comprehension ability through the specific application of the assessment in teaching practice.In order to reflect the objectivity of this practical research,the author samples the classes of Grade One and conducts research on two ordinary classes he taught.One class is the control group delivered by the method of the regular reading teaching,and the other is the experimental group with the teaching intervention goal.After consulting from the relevant literature at home and abroad,combining the specific standards of the China's Standards of English Language Ability,clarifying the purpose of diagnosis and collecting the relevant data of test,the author uses the questionnaire to “diagnoses” the main deficiencies and potential problems of students in reading.The main problems reflected in the “diagnostic records”,under the same teaching time,targeted “teaching interventions” were conducted for nearly four months.During the “intervention” process,the “intervention target and content” are adjusted and improved according to the actual situation of the students.Finally the comparative data analysis of two final examinations is used to reflect the effectiveness and practical significance of the diagnostic assessment in improving reading comprehension ability.This thesis is intended to provide the practical and theoretical reference for future teaching with the practical application of diagnostic assessment in improving the English reading comprehension ability of high school students.
