Collocation is the most active part in corpus linguistics. So far,the corpus-based research still focuses on collocation in English but Chinese collocation of verbs are unsatisfactory.Besides,in the intermediate and advanced TCFL practice, the error rate of homonym synonym is still high. Therefore, based on the specific native language corpus, this paper uses the corpus-driven method and uses the Sketch Engine online statistical tool to investigate the collocation mechanism of the verb “zaocheng, xingcheng and cucheng” through the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis. The study will focus on high-frequency collocations, semantics, semantic features and semantic prosody to explore their collocation rules. The purpose of this paper is to enrich the research on Chinese collocations, serve as a TCFL case study, and provide reference for the study of collocation of synonyms.Through the comparative analysis of “zaocheng, xingcheng and cucheng”,this paper draws the following conclusions.First, the three words are significantly different on the right side of the collocation.“Zaocheng” is usually followed by words with negative meanings,“xingcheng” by words with neutral meanings and “cucheng” by words with positive meanings.Second, the objects in the predicate-object structure of these three words are quite different. The objects behind “zaocheng” usually refer to such biological activities as “death” and “harm”,those behind “xingcheng” are usually related to such abstract words as “consciousness”,“science” and “education”,and those behind “cucheng” are often associated with social activities such as “help”,“trade”.Third, the semantic features of the auxiliary components on the left side of these three words are also different. Those preceding “zaocheng” mostly have the meanings of the related mark with the structural implications of the attached mark;those before “xingcheng” usually have the tense meanings of the restricted mark with the conditional implications of the unique mark;and those preceding “cucheng” also have the tense meanings of the restricting mark but highlight the meaning of determination in the evaluation mark.Fourth, these three words can all fall into the semantic structure of “event/activity +zaocheng/xingcheng/cucheng +result”,but the results have different implications. For “zaocheng”,it is often followed by the objective result;for “xingcheng”,the result is often a new one or a new situation. For “cucheng”,the result often refers to actions or activities on the part of an individual or a group.Fifth, these three words also differ in semantic prosody.“Zaocheng” has an apparently negative semantic rhyme,“xingcheng” intricate semantic rhymeand “cucheng” positive semantic rhyme. In addition, based on the HSK dynamic corpus, this paper finds that errors in the usage of the three words fall into three categories: collocation errors, semantic range errors and semantic rhythm errors, and summarize the causes of errors from subjective and objective aspects.Under such circumstances, teachers are suggested to help foreign students develop collocation awareness in the Chinese, and comprehensively use a variety of teaching methods,of which corpus-based teaching is strongly recommended for senior students.
