"Absurdity" In Contemporary Art Practice

“Absurdity” is a philosophical concept put forward at the beginning of the 20 th century,which originated from literature and was widely used in various art fields later.It became an extremely important theme in modern art.As an overview of people's current life and state,many contemporary art works are permeated with strong absurd emotions in the process of reflecting social reality.This paper attempts to discuss the “absurdity” dormant in the works of Chinese young contemporary artists,and to analyse the way in which the absurdity is presented and the sociological factors behind it.The first chapter of this paper discusses the definition of several important concepts in the topic,such as “absurdity”,“artistic practice”,and the rules of national restrictions on the subjects of discussion.In addition,the corresponding research background and research methods are described.The second chapter briefly expounds the origin and general development direction of “absurdity” from two aspects of philosophy and aesthetics.The third and fourth chapters are the core part of this paper,starting with cases to explore the techniques and language of artists to create absurd feelings in their works,and expounds the different growth environment of this generation of artists and their predecessors,and analyses the reasons for the appearance of absurd factors from the perspective of sociology.Among them,the third chapter enumerates and summarizes the presentation and creation methods of absurdity in the works of some young Chinese contemporary artists,and expounds from the three perspectives of “intuitive presentation”,“emotional experience” and “logical narration”,starting from the order of observation habit.“Intuition” show that large the absurdity of visual experience,“emotional experience” is a further view of immersion of emotional experience leads to the absurd feeling,“narrative logic”,from the logic to interrupt the sense of absurdity,and closely narrative logic absurd sense of alienation from two angles of absurdist emotions are analysed.The fourth chapter describes the physical environment from the perspective of sociology and technology factor's influence on the artists born during this period,“the one-child policy and a series of time leaves a mark in artists,as well as the globalisation intensifying and complex education background for the artists born after70 is different from the elder's world outlook and values.After a long period of precipitation,these unique marks often become an entrance for artists to experience the absurdity of life.The era of young artists is a very special historical period in China.The social changes subtly affect these young people.They use their sensitivity to capture those dislocated and contradictory moments and finally present them in their works of art.Through these works,we seem to be able to bypass the usual life,break away from the law,and perceive another side of the world we are in,another landscape.
