We use the body to experience the world.The body is a challenging,diverse and changeable form.There are a lot of symbols in the body that mark us and others about gender,age,race and other identities.This paper focuses on the body image in Bacon’s paintings,because the body as a symbol has multiple meanings,it is hidden in various fields such as society,politics and history.From Jean Paul Sartre,Merleau Ponty,Georges Bataille,Jacques Derrida,Jean Baudrillard,Michel Foucault,Roland Barthes to Bakhtin,Gilles Louis R é n é Deleuze)and so on,the theoretical thoughts of these thinkers and philosophers began to tend to pay attention to and sort out the body,which has been getting rid of the understanding of the original art for the body,so that this symbol emerges in the theoretical field as a material entity,and such thoughts are also constantly influencing and constructing contemporary art.Francis Bacon(1909-1992)is an outstanding figure painter in the second half of the 20 th century.He is also full of mystery.His works show a kind of violence and visual power,which challenges the performance of body and subjectivity in the contemporary world.Bacon is one of the most important painters in contemporary art.He went through World War I and World War II.In addition to the turbulent background of his time,he also experienced underage sexual behavior,homosexuality,female dress addiction,abuse and abuse.These keywords also constituted his experience in his youth.In his works,the object of expression is man,but the way of expression is quite different from other artists.His works always revolve around the form of presenting the body to create.In different periods of time,due to the different influence,his works show a variety of understanding of the body,but his works always want to present the most essential and real face as a human being.He explained the theme of “suffering“ in an atheistic way,such as the whole ear screaming or laughing,as well as the bloody peeling off of the characters.He refuses the appearance or character of the characters,as if he isconducting a trial: people outside the aura,spasmodic bodies,incomplete body parts,disappearing faces.These are his awkward prisoners,the president,the Pope and lovers.As he experienced frequent migration and severe and indifferent family life in his childhood,all these left a mark on him.This mark may be the violence shown in his paintings,and also the interest and distance to people hiding behind the replicas.The“body“ element has been throughout Bacon’s paintings.In the decades after his death,bacon was included in the ranks of Picasso,Mark Rothko,Andy Warhol and others,and became a great master of modern art.Bacon died in 1992,and his works are still favored by collectors for more than ten years.In recent years,his works have been auctioned at high prices,and become the artist whose price has risen fastest after Andy Warhol and Picasso.Up to now,about 982 works of bacon have been auctioned,with a total auction amount of about $17113.3 million.Bacon,as the most expensive or appreciating artist in the Western postwar works auction,must have its logic significance,and his works of art have become an important coordinate in the art history.
