A Report On The Translation Of An Excerpt From Circe Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

Madeline Miller's new work Circe is a newly re-creation of a Greek mythological tale.Compared with ancient Greek mythology,this book is based on the background and relationship of the characters in ancient Greek mythology that carried out secondary processing and creation,and its content was both storytelling and literary.It describes the unique growth history of the witch Circe.Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory emphasizes the need to convey information according to the language,culture and pragmatic ways of the target language in the hope of making the translation have the same effect on the target language readers as the original text on the original language readers.For the reason,the translator took this theory as the guidance to translated the first four chapters of Circe.Through this practice,the translator has further studied the textual features and linguistic features of Greek mythological novels and the original author,and has a better understanding of the application of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory,and knew that to use the theory as a practical guide,different emphasis should be distinguished,and each focus should be combined with different translation strategies or techniques,then the effect of the target readers should be similar to the effect of the original readers.Through this practice,the translator hoped that it will provide some reference for the English-Chinese translators of Greek mythological novels.
