As one of the most important writers in the history of modern Chinese literature,Lao She's literary creation is inseparable from Beijing that he lives in.The connection between Lao She and Beijing is often one of the important entry points of Lao She's research. However,a single approach to realism research has spawned Lao She's research. Therefore, this research will be based on the theory of "literature and urban construction in the process of urbanization" proposed by scholar Richard Leigh. This research will study and analyze Beijing in Lao She's novels in three aspects: material, system, and spiritual.Explore the similar fate and very similar spiritual world experienced by different characters in Lao She's novels from the 1920 s to the 1940 s,and explore the main reasons for this phenomenon.Taking the above research ideas as the starting point, this research hopes to make the study of Lao She's literary creation separate from the realism research methods and realism value orientation. This research study will be divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction, which mainly introduces the source of the research topic, the research scope, the research status, the research significance and research methods. The second part of the study will determine the theoretical basis of this research by sorting out the relationship between urban development and literary history and discussing the mutually reinforcing relationship between cities and novels. The third part of the study will demonstrate the "urban writing" in Lao She's novels in detail from three aspects: material, system and spirit. The fourth part will systematically analyze the objective relationship between the disillusionment ending in Lao She's novel and the urbanization process of Beijing at that time.
