Based on the whole history of Chinese,this paper studies the whole appearance and diachronic evolution of Chinese adjective suffix from the perspective of synchronic and diachronic,this paper attempts to explain the source of grammaticalization and the reasons for the decline in the ability of word formation and the withdrawal from the category of adjective suffixes,and sums up the features and reasons for the evolution of Chinese adjective suffixes.The introduction mainly introduces the significance of topic selection,the current situation and problems of the research,the research methods adopted,the judgment standard of adjective suffix and the use cases.The first part mainly discusses the origin,usage and characteristics of the adjective suffix in ancient Chinese.We divide the sources of adjective suffix in ancient Chinese into four types: SEMANTIC VERBS,demonstrative pronouns,modal particles and conjunctions,and summarize their usage from word-building ability,combining root type and grammatical function At last,it concludes that the adjective suffix in ancient Chinese has strong ability of word-building and complicated grammaticalization.The second part mainly discusses the origin,usage and characteristics of the adjective suffix in middle ancient Chinese.On the one hand,we trace the development of the adjective suffixes in ancient Chinese and compare the usage of these primitive adjective suffixes with that in ancient Chinese,we trace back to the source of the new adjective suffixes in the middle ancient Chinese and investigate their use in the middle ancient Chinese.In addition,the "normalization" of the suffix of adjectives in the middle ancient Chinese is also noted in three aspects: The suffix member,the root property and the grammatical function.The third part mainly discusses the origin,usage and characteristics of the adjective suffix in modern Chinese.On the one hand,we trace the development of the adjective suffixes of middle ancient Chinese in modern Chinese,and compare the use of these primitive adjective suffixes with middle ancient Chinese,we trace the origin of the adjective suffix "Dang" in modern Chinese and investigate its use in modern Chinese.In addition,modern Chinese adjective suffix as a whole shows the decline ofword-building ability,the increase of Inert Suffix,and the gradual division of grammatical functions.The fourth part mainly discusses the evolution characteristics and reasons of Chinese adjective suffix.The characteristics are as follows: first,the stability of adjective suffix in classical Chinese system is stronger than that in vernacular system;.There are two reasons for the evolution of Chinese adjective suffix: internal reasons and external reasons.The internal causes include: The tendency of disyllablization of Chinese vocabulary and the competition of classical Chinese and vernacular system.The fifth part is the conclusion.This paper gives a brief summary of the article and points out the shortcomings in the study.
