Metaphor,as a form of cognition and thinking,can help us to connect the new concept with what we know through similarity,so as to quickly recognize new concepts.Therefore,metaphor is a very important way of language recognition.Multimodal metaphor vocabulary teaching is to use modern technology like pictures,videos,music,voice,gestures and other modals to show metaphor which can stimulate students' various senses collaboration in vocabulary metaphor meaning construction,so that the students can establish the connection between the known and new words through their similarity.By this the students will blend the new words in their vocabulary network,and achieve twice the result with half the effort.In this study,105 students from two classes in No.4 Senior High school in Yan'an city were selected for the experiment.In this study,the experimental class and the control class were set up.In the process of teaching,it was conducted according to the mode of multimodal metaphorical vocabulary teaching in the experimental class and the conventional teaching mode in the control class.After the experiment of one semester,the author hold the vocabulary test with the vocabulary learned in this semester.At the same time,nine students selected randomly according to grades from the experimental class were interviewed.Then the following conclusions were drawn: After the comparison of data before and after shown that the multi-modal metaphor instruction in vocabulary teaching can improve the English vocabulary performance of senior high school students.Through the interviews with nine students in the experimental class,most students hold a positive attitude towards this teaching mode and students all expressed their interest in the multimodal metaphor teaching method,which could mobilize the participation of multiplesenses,so as to deepen the construction of the metaphorical meaning of vocabulary.
