Jia Pingwa is one of the most concerned writers in the history of contemporary Chinese literature. The academic circle has shown a relatively complete trend in the study of his novel creation. Therefore, this paper introduces the concept of "intertextuality" to consider the opera and ballad in Jia Pingwa's novels in order to explore the internal basis and aesthetic connotation of Jia Pingwa's novels from this starting point, and it reveals the charm of intertextuality in the whole contemporary literature through reflecting the intertextuality in the Jia Pingwa's opera and folk songs. This paper expounds the intertextuality between opera and ballad in Jia Pingwa's novels from three aspects:Firstly, starting from the relationship between opera and novel, this paper expounds the intertextual relationship between Jia Pingwa's novels and opera. The tradition of the combination between opera and novel has a long history, which is also related to Jia Pingwa's personal choice of opera as a Shanxi native. In Qin Opera, the intertextual narration of opera greatly dignifies the novel.Qin Opera plays an important role in the creation of thematic atmosphere. The writer skillfully uses the "structure of opera within the opera" in Qin Opera to reveal the psychological changes and plot development in the novel. In this way,Qin Opera is perfectly integrated into the novel, which is appears a harmonious trend between text and music.Secondly,it analyzes the intertextuality between Jia Pingwa 's novels and folk songs from the perspective of ballad. The relationship between folk songs and literature has been lasting for a long time, and the "Ballad Movement" in May fourth period pushed it forward.By analogizing with the opera, the intertextual narration of ballads mainly reflects in the contribution of folk songs to the characterization, plot construction and atmosphere creation of the novel. So even though there are not many folk songs in Jia Pingwa's novels,it has been one of the characteristics of his novels. At last, basted on the first two parts of the intertextual narrative in opera folksongs,we can further explore the functional significance of the intertextuality between Jia Pingwa's novels and opera ballads. In terms of the characteristics of intertextuality,it is mainly about the inheritance of intertextuality and the innovative significance of the received text. Therefore, this part is divided into two aspects. One is the multiple meanings in the perspective of folk literature represented by opera and ballad, which plays an important role in the inheritance and continuation of regional spiritual culture, folk characteristics and regional style. The other is that drama and ballad have certain innovation for the narration and aesthetic value of the novel. The involvement of opera and folk song changes the narrative time and space of the novel, and the narrative acceptance also puts forward certain requirements for the readers;at the same time, there is also room to improve the aesthetic of language, content and style of Jia Pingwa's novels.Intertextuality has high requirements for readers owing to its nature and mechanism and its inherent limitations also deserve consideration.
