A Comparative Study Of The Semantic Transfer Of Chinese And Indonesian Body Terms

Nowadays,the topic of body terms has attracted the eyes of linguist.So far many scholars had conducted study on the body terms,and obatained a great number of result.The study from cognition points of view is mainly on the comparative study between Chinese and English,there is almost no article regarding chinese and Indonesian research,then provide a space for this study.It is easy to grasp the original meaning of a word,but as Chinese and Indonesian body terms have the metaphorical meaning and are frequently used in our daily life,this often causes difficulty in vocabulary learning.The cognitive linguistics theories applied in this study such as mapping,image schema,ICM(Idealized Conceptual Models)as well as the concept of metaphore and methonymy as to inquire into the feature of semantic transfer of Chinese and Indonesia body term:"head,eye and face",this study is aimed at finding the common feature and individual feature of the semantic transfer of chinese and Indonesian body terms.Through comparative analysis we can understand the feature of chinese and Indonesia body terms and its cultural connotation indepth and can provide a thought for designing a target-based strategy of teaching Chinese as a second language.As the result of this study we find that the mode and way of semantic transfer of Chinese and Indonesian body terms "head,eye and face" are basically consistent,and have certain pattern to follow.But the methaphorical expression of Chinese is richer than Indonesian.The semantic transfer of the two languages have common feature and individual feature.But the common feature is larger than individual feature.The common feature reflects the universality of human cognition while the individual feature verifies the cultural relativity of Chinese people and Indonesia People.This thesis comprises of 5 chapters.Chapter ?:Introduction,describes the study background,recent research on body terms,data collecting and scope of study,the methods used in this study and theoretical basis.Chapter ?,? and ? is the comparative analysis of Chinese and Indonesian body terms head,eye and face.The last chapter summarizes the viewpoints of this article,the deficiencies of research and teaching suggestions.
