War And Crisis On The Frontier Of The Roman Empire Under Tiberius

There is a lot of research on Tiberius in the foreign academic circle,but the research on the frontier war and crisis of the Roman Empire during Tiberius' reign is relatively weak.As Augustus' successor,Tiberius remained on the throne for 23 years,during which the empire was beset by war and crisis on its frontier.Although it did not shake the foundation of Roman rule,war and crisis constituted the main problems on the frontier of the empire in the Tiberius era.The purpose of this thesis is to survey the war and crisis on the frontier of the Roman Empire during Tiberius' reign,to examine the response of Tiberius to the war and crisis on the frontier,and then to summarize Tiberius' frontier policy and analyze the impact of Tiberius' frontier policy.The thesis consists of three parts.The first part is introduction,including the research status at home and abroad,the significance of the topic,the innovation,the research methods and so on.According to the literature collected by author,the thesis expound the relevant research on the frontier war and crisis,and summarize the research status.The second part is the main content of the thesis,which successively discusses the Germanic war,the frontier revolts,and the wars and crises of the eastern frontier.Firstly,this paper discusses in detail the historical origin,course,result and positive significance of the Germanic war which occur in the early years of Tiberius' reign,and analyzes the reasons why Tiberius ended the Germanic war.Secondly,it expounds the frontier revolts during Tiberius' reign,discusses Tacfarinas revolt,Gaul revolt and Frisii revolt respectively,and further summarizes the characteristic and influences of the frontier revolts.Thirdly,the eastern frontier wars and crises of the empire are studied,respectively discussing the Thracian uprising,the crisis of Asian minor and the eastern crisis,emphasizing the pacify of Tiberius to the eastern empire.The third part consists of the brief analysis of Tiberius' frontier policy and conclusion.In the part of the analysis of Tiberius' frontier policy,author holds that Tiberius implemented the pacifying policy and diplomatic policy on the frontier,and points out that Tiberius' frontier policy reversed the expansion tendency on the frontier of Rome in the late republic and Augustus era,ensured the overall peace of the Roman world during his reign.But on the other hand,in some specific cases,Tiberius' frontier policy also had the negative effect of delaying the pacification of wars and crises.The conclusion part summarizes the full article,and makes this paper complete.
