This thesis is based on Devoted Learning Theory and Humanistic Learning Theory.Taking a middle school student in Yan'an as an example, the research methods of literature research, questionnaire survey and interview are used to discuss the following two questions: 1)What is the current situation of junior high school students' English classroom participation? 2)What is the correlation between junior high school students' English classroom participation and English achievements? This study used SPSS17.0 software to perform descriptive statistics and correlation analysis on the data obtained from the survey,as well as to discuss the contents of the interviews, and the following results were obtained: 1)The current participation of junior high school students in the English classroom is not as good, and needs to be improved.Among them, behavior participation is relatively the best, followed by cognitive participation, and finally emotional participation.2)Behavioral participation, cognitive participation and English learning achievements show a positive correlation. This means that the more students engage in behavioral and cognitive participation in the English class, the better their results will be.3)Emotional participation is negatively correlated with English learning achievements. But emotional participation includes positive emotional participation and negative emotional participation.Through specific statistical analysis, the author found that there is a positive correlation between pleasure and achievement and English performance, while anxiety and boredom are negatively correlated with English learning achievements. In addition,by comparing the correlation coefficients,it is found that the negative emotional participation is more stronglycorrelated with English learning achievements. This means that negative emotional participation has a greater impact on English learning achievements than positive emotional participation. Finally, based on the research results, this paper puts forward some suggestions for English classroom teaching,namely:(1)guiding students to establish a correct view of classroom participation;(2)paying attention to the design and reasonable arrangement of classroom activities;(3)resolving students bad emotions in time;(4)changing only to practice by doing exercises;(5)encouraging every student to participate in the classroom.Looking forward to future research,I hope to expand the sample size, and to explore student participation in classrooms from different angles and with different research methods to see if there are more new discoveries.
