Writing,as one of the four basic skills of English,reflects students' overall ability to use the language.With the increase in the proportion of writing in the English for college entrance examinations,the Standards for General Senior High School English Curriculum(2017)(hereinafter referred to as the New Curriculum Standard)specify the requirements that students should meet in writing,and how to better Writing teaching,improving students' writing ability,which has become the focus of teachers' attention.At present,there is still a gap between high school English writing teaching and the New Curriculum Standard.After confirmation,there are problems in high school English writing,such as teaching concepts,teaching methods,teaching content,students' writing interests and writing abilities and so on.In order to improve the current status of English writing teaching and students' writing ability as a whole,it is planned to conduct a design study on English writing teaching from the perspective of holistic teaching under the guidance of holistic language teaching theory,reductionism,and system theory,which is conducive to training students' writing enthusiasm,improve writing skills.During the research,first,the study consults the literature on high school writing and observes the writing class in the first grade.Then,it combines interviews with three senior teachers and fifty students,and students' textual errors under the three themes.It confirms the problems existing in the teaching of English writing in high school.According to the existing problems of English writing teaching in high school,and the New Curriculum Standard requirements,the study dividing the high school compulsory textbooks from one to five,a total of 30 units are divided into three major themes of“human and self”,“human and society”,and “human and nature”.After that,under theguidance of holistic language teaching theory,reductionism,and system theory,three teaching themes were designed for writing.Next,apply the new writing instructional design.After the application,the errors in student writing were analyzed and compared with Excel and SPSS17.0,the students and teachers were interviewed twice,and the students were questionnaires to verify whether the overall instructional design can better improve the students' writing ability.Finally,combined with the application process of the entire instructional design and student feedback,it reflects on the deficiencies of the overall instructional design of high school English writing and the direction in which improvement is needed.In summary,based on the general question “How to improve students' English writing ability through holistic instructional design?” In accordance with the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards,under the guidance of the holistic language teaching theory,reductionism and system theory,forming three specific holistic instructional design plans.Apply the overall instructional design plan to the high school English writing class.Through the analysis of student writing texts,interviews and questionnaires,it is found that the design promotes students' writing enthusiasm and improves students' writing ability.
