A Research On Wang Fu' Ben-Mo Idea

Different historical periods have different interpretations of the historical connotation of Ben-Mo idea.Before the Spring and Autumn Period,there was no systematic idea of Ben-Mo in the economic field.During the Warring States Period,Li Kui,Shang Yang,Xun Zi and other thinkers' interpretations of agriculture,industry and commerce promoted the formation and finalization of the theory of emphasizing agriculture and restraining commerce.Thinkers in Qin and Han Dynasties inherited the Ben-Mo idea of the Warring States Period,and a series of measures had been taken to curb the development of industrial and commercial forces.Since the middle and late Western Han Dynasty,it gradually formed a trinity of economic structure of bureaucrats and nobles,powerful landlords and big businessmen.The promotion of the status of businessmen led to the development of construction and commerce,and it was very common for economic activities to combine multiple business modes.Thus the theory of emphasizing agriculture and restraining commerce was not consistent with the objective economic development.In response to the needs of the realistic society,Wang Fu revised the traditional Ben-Mo idea of the relationship of agriculture,industry and commerce.On the one hand,Wang Fu creatively divided the roots and leaves in the economic field,and put forward that agriculture,industry and commerce all had their own roots and leaves.He stressed that the wealth of the people was the prerequisite for the prosperity of the country,thus he was opposed to getting rich by doing the nonessential job just for private fortune.On the other hand,Wang Fu still regarded agriculture as the root,and took it as the most important root.He recognized the importance of working time for agricultural production and the harm of disproportionate agricultural population caused by extravagant consumption.Therefore,he proposed to cherish time and abandon luxury to advocate roots and restrain leaves,and drive people back to agriculture.In the field of ideology,Wang Fu also advocated ideas of five Ben-Mo.He believed that all levels should understand what their duty was.
