Reception aesthetics theory emphasizes the reader’s central role, and focus on their aesthetic experience.Guided by this theory, the author has completed the translation of the first two chapters of Chinese contemporary literature Xiangxi Culture — The Origin of Xiangxi Culture and The Characteristics of Xiangxi Culture — and summarized the entire translation task,as well as analyzing the aesthetic role on literary translation. This paper is a study report of translation practice, consisting of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the translation task.Chapter Two describes the translation process.Chapter Three demonstrates the significance of aesthetic strategy in literary translation through case analysis.Chapter Four draws task reflection and conclusion.Chapter Three is the core part, analyzing the translation methods of culture-loaded words,four-character phrases and quotations in Xiangxi Culture, and makes a discussion that reception aesthetics can guide literary translation from three aspects, namely, the creation of reader’s expectation, the production of language beauty, and the application of translator’s recreation. This report gives an opinion that translators can use reception aesthetics theory as guidance in literary translation and create a better aesthetic view for readers while preserving cultural connotations of source text.Xiangxi culture is an indispensable part of Chinese culture. So far,the book Xiangxi Culture has no English version. In the background of “Chinese culture going to the world”,this translation practice can effectively spread the culture with Chinese characteristics. At the same time,it can also provide information for other translators. |
