A Semantic Investigation Of The Structure "V+dao(?)+X" In Modern Chinese Language And The Nature Of "Dao"(?)

In this paper,the structure of "V+dao(?)+X" is investigated at synchronic level and diachronic level.At synchronic level,according to the different semantics,the structure of "V+dao(??)+X" can be divided into five categories:"V+dao(?)+X(place)","V+dao(?)+X(time)”,"V+dao(?)+X(object)“,"V+ dao(?)+X(degree)"and "V+dao(?)+X(quantity)”.At the diachronic level,the evolution of different semantic types of "V+dao(?)+X" structure is objectively sorted out according to the time clues.The diachronic evolution path of the "V+dao(?)+X" structure presents two directions,separating two different types of "V+dao(?)+X" structure,one of which means "arrival".In this type of structure,"dao"(?)is a preposition that introduces place,time,degree,and quantity.Although "dao"(?)has grammaticalization in different degrees in different types of structure,the original meaning of "arrival" is still left."dao"(?)structurally forms a prepositional phrase with "X".The other is the "V+dao(?)+X"structure with the meaning of "implementation"."dao"(?)in this kind of structure serves as the resultative complement of the verb,and it means the realization or completion of the action that the verb presents.The original meaning of "dao"(?)which is "arrival" has been completely disappeared,and "dao"(?)only indicates the grammatical meaning.So'dao"(?)is a component seems like auxiliary word.
