| Language and culture are mutually dependent and closely related,both of which influence each other.For a long period of time,people have been sharing their views on the relationship between language and culture,but generally speaking,language contains culture,and as the carrier of culture,is restricted by culture.In language,there is a type of vocabulary rich in cultural background meaning,which has been the focus of attention among linguists.In composition and structure,“Soviet Union” is actually a phrase,and in in terms of lexical meaning,it is actually a lexicalized proper noun,which belongs to political terms and is full of cultural connotations,bearing the historical and cultural associations of the Russians and people around the world.Thus,it is of great research value.This paper tries to have a deep study on the historical word “Soviet Union” from the aspects of language and culture.First of all,from the diachronic angle,based on three periods including the stage before the Soviet Union,the stage of the Soviet Union and the stage after the Soviet Union,the analytical method of dictionary definition is applied to study the dictionary definitions of “Soviet”,“Union” and “Soviet Union” in detailed annotation dictionary,etymology dictionary and Encyclopedia dictionary.By tracing the source,the paper tries to do up the social cognition reflected in dictionary definitions and the social cognition of Советский Союз under different political situations in different periods;secondly,according to the theory that the semantic field is the paradigmatic relation among internal members,it tries to construct construct the semantic field,synonym field and historical field,so as to expand its extension research;lastly,by using questionnaire method,an investigation is carried out on open questions including basic necessities of life,politics and culture,and meanwhile,statistical analysis is made on the cultural associative meaning of “Soviet Union”,thus constructing the prospect of the Soviet Union in the eyes of Russian and Chinese people.Studying the Soviet Union from the perspective of multi-dimensional is not only conductive to promote the research of lexicology,lexicography and linguistic culturology,but also helpful to know about the rich cultural connotation behind "Soviet Union" as well as the cognition of the Soviet Union in current society. |
