| This report is mainly about the translator’s detailed introduction to the translation tasks of the first eight chapters of A Reader’s Companion to the Confucian Analects.As the root and essence of traditional Chinese culture,the status of Confucianism should not be underestimated.Today,Confucianism has not only been valued at home,but also recognized by other countries around the world,which is also one of the important reasons for the translator to choose this book as the source text.Secondly,the author of the book,Henry Rosemont Jr.,provides us with a new perspective on the study of the Analects and Confucianism,which can reflect the attitudes and views of Westerners on traditional Chinese culture and thoughts.The translation report consists of five chapters.In chapter 1,the translator introduces the background and significance of the task as well as the structure and main content of the whole translation task.In chapter 2,the translator not only gives a brief description of the source text author and the main content of the source text,but also makes a detailed analysis of the features of the text.In chapter 3,the translator provides the process description,including pre-translation preparations,translating process and quality assurance of post-translation.Chapter 4 is the focus of this report,which is the case analysis part.It is divided by the translator into two parts: 1)translation of quotations in source text;2)the retranslation of the unintelligible sentences.For the processing of the source language,the translator’s method for the quotation from the target language is retroversion and citation;for the processing of the quotation from the source language,the translator adopts the method of adding footnotes.Finally,the translator lists some retranslated sentences and classifies them into poor sentence comprehension,the inflexible use of the target language,the over-obtrusion of the translator,and incorrect interpretation of historical facts etc.In the last chapter,the translator concludes her reflection and gains in pre-translation preparation and case analysis. |
