Research On The Narrative Techniques Of Chinese Food Documentary

The development and transformation of any kind of film and television art can not be separated from the changes of the times and the progress of science and technology.Documentary is a form of video art that objectively records the real world.Therefore,documentary plays a very important role in recording social changes and cultural inheritance.How the documentary film meets the market demands of the new era makes it more attractive,and only the appropriate narrative techniques can be used to output more high-quality content.Three meals a day is the foundation of people's livelihood in a country.Food is closely related to people's livelihood.What permeates behind the diet is the food culture and family customs of a nation and a family.In today's society,eating delicious food is not only a physiological need to eat a full stomach,but also a way for people to relax,so people's enthusiasm for delicious food only increases.With the rapid development of China's social economy and the improvement of people's material living standards,the public's demand for delicious food is also increasing.People not only pursue the variety and health of food in life,but also are willing to invest more time and money to consume food.Under such a background,the documentary of gourmet theme was born from the family of traditional documentaries.Born with a strong temperament to guide consumption,as well as its obvious regional and cultural characteristics,are deeply loved by the audience.Since “A Bite of China ” was launched in 2012,food documentaries have become a hot topic in documentary creation in China.Whether a food documentary can tell a good story depends on its use of narrative skills.The writing of this article is supported by the theory of film and television narrative.The graduation work“Every Noodle in Chengdu ” and the series of Chinese food documentaries that have been popular in Chinain recent years are used as the main research case to use text analysis methods for research.From the three perspectives of narrative structure,narrative language and narrative rhythm,this paper studies the expression characteristics and application of the narrative techniques of food documentary.The narrative structure is to reorganize and arrange the materials so that the audience can clearly obtain the unique form with the content of the subjective consciousness of the creator.The audiovisual language is the narrative language,because it has a strong narrative,and it is also the most basic means of constituting the video text.The creative processing and application of narrative language is even more icing on the presentation of narrative content.In recent years,with the rapid development of digital technology,new imaging technologies have also been continuously introduced into the creation of gourmet documentaries to bring more sensory spectacle experiences to the audience.For example,the innovative application of narrative techniques such as the reproduction of animated virtual scenes,aerial photography,and the first use of photomicrography in "Once Upon a Bite" in 2018 have continuously enriched the visual expression techniques and creative ideas in the narrative language of Chinese food documentaries.Any narrative has its own rhythm,no rhythm of the narrative is like a pool of stagnant water.Elaborate suspense,ups and downs of the story plot can mobilize the internal rhythm of the narrative,the camera movement and the flexible application of montage editing can mobilize the external rhythm,only the harmonious resonance of the two can constitute a perfect narrative rhythm to win the favor of the audience.Documentary always takes the pursuit of truth as its basic element.On the premise of ensuring the authenticity of documentary,flexible use of narrative techniques can make the story more attractive in the process of telling.Because documentary film itself is an art form of record culture and communication culture,food documentary carries food culture,which is also one of the most important narrative purposes.This article focuses on the use of narrative techniques in food documentaries,and in addition,the value of the narrative carried by thefood documentary is refined from another perspective.The author hopes that the analysis and discussion on the application of narrative techniques in food documentaries in this paper can provide some theoretical guidance for later researchers and bring some practical ideas and inspirations to the creators in practice.
