Listening,as one of the basic skills of language learning, occupies a pivotal position in learning English. However,in current high school English teaching, listening is often neglected. In English class, teachers rarely set up special listening courses.Even if they have listening training, teachers often directly play the recording for students to complete the test questions and then check the answers. This method has little effect on improving students’ listening comprehension ability, and will also cause students to lose their enthusiasm for listening learning. In this case,it is very important to actively explore an effective listening teaching model in senior high school. The improvement of listening comprehension also involves many aspects,so short-term experimental exploration cannot cover everything. At the same time, based on the current research status, the author chooses inferential questions in listening training as the entry point to explore the change of listening teaching mode. Therefore, this study chooses indirect speech act theory as the theoretical basis to construct teaching model to guide the listening teaching. In this study, the author mainly studies the following questions:Question 1: What effects does the English listening teaching mode based on indirect speech act theory have on senior high school students’ understanding about English listening learning?Question 2: What influences does the English listening teaching mode based on indirect speech act theory have on the English listening comprehension ability of senior high school students? In order to solve the above questions, the author does an experiment, which lasts four months. The author selects two parallel classes as participants, which are from Grade 1 in No.1 Senior High School of Wen Xian County in Henan Province. These classes are divided into experimental class with 62 students and control class with 63 students. The experimental class uses the teaching model based on indirect speech act theory, while the control class adopts the traditional teaching method. In this experiment, the author uses questionnaires, interviews and tests as research instruments.Questionnaires and interviews help the author to learn about the learning situation, opinions of students on listening and the changes of students in EC before and after the experiment.Tests help the author to find out the differences in performance before and after experiment.By all of these, the author verified the effect of the new listening teaching model.Through the analysis of questionnaires, interviews and tests, the author draws the following conclusions:1)The listening teaching mode based on indirect speech act theory has a positive impact on senior high school students’ understanding of English listening learning. This listening teaching mode changes students’ previous wrong understanding of listening and helps them to reconstruct new understanding about listening learning. The comparison between pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire shows students in EC have a change on the understanding about the importance of listening, the criteria of high listening level and so on.To be specific, students begin to pay attention to listening learning, and they form a long-term vision,no longer learning only for grades.Students also realize that improving listening comprehension ability is a comprehensive process, which needs to do more work.2)From the scores of two tests,it is easy to see that both of classes make great progress, however, the mean score in EC has a bigger improvement than that in CC,which shows the effectiveness on improving students’ listening comprehension ability of this teaching mode, particularly students’ inferential ability. From the comparison of questionnaires and interviews,it is found that students accept and acknowledge this teaching mode.At the same time, the experiment has certain limitations, such as the short experiment time and few samples. Therefore, further in-depth research is still needed in the future.Meanwhile, the author also offers some suggestions for further study.
