A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Prose From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics Theory

The culture of Chinese characters is of long standing,and due to an increasing interest in Chinese characters,Chinese culture has spread far and wide.The prose collection Reflection upon Life by Chinese Characters collects 25 letters written by Mr.Yang Wurui,which discusses Chinese characters.Through the introduction to the origin and development of Chinese characters,the author Yang Wurui tries to inspire people to reconsider the modern life principles.In this report,the translation of three proses from the book is selected as a case study.Prose enjoys a great popularity because of its free form and rich emotion,but differences between languages and cultures bring the output of Chinese prose a lot difficulties.The Reception Aesthetics can guide the practice of prose translation since the theory highlights the reader's position,and during the translation process,the translator holds the positions of both a reader and a writer.Based on the applied analysis of this theory,the translator can reproduce a work catering to the taste of the target language readers.On the basis of the Reception Aesthetics theory,this project report adopts the translation of three articles from Reflection upon Life by Chinese Characters as a case study,focusing on the strategies and methods of prose translation based on specific translated examples from three important concepts:horizon of expectations,indeterminacy and role of readers.Five chapters are included in the report.The first chapter provides a detailed introduction to the project background and information of the author and selected book.The second chapter takes an overview of Reception Aesthetics theory along with the introduction to three main concepts.Chapter Three covers the preparation work before the implementation of the translation project and the process of translation as well as difficulties in the translation work and some possible corresponding solutions advanced by the reporter.Chapter Four analyses some specific translation examples from lexical,syntactic and discourse levels under the direction of this translation theory.And a summary of the translation project and deficiencies of the report are elaborated as a conclusion in the fifth chapter.The reporter analyses the typical cases in the translation practices from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics theory,aiming at proving the availability of Reception Aesthetics theory applied in prose translation and expecting more higher quality translated Chinese literature works.
