Everything I Never Told You is Celeste Ng's first novel, which is subtle and detailed, and the writing is calm and restrained.Once published,it was widely praised and became the most powerful and popular black sheep of 2014,and not only jumped into the New York Times bestseller but also won the best book of 2014 selected by countless media including the Amazon website in the United States. The novel tells of a series of identity crises in an ordinary interracial family in Middlewood of Ohio,USA,in the 1970s.The theory of post-colonialism emerged in the 1970s,which studied the cultural rights and discourse relations between imperialist and post-colonial countries.Since entering the era of globalization, the post-colonial theory has renewed its vitality. Many of its research topics are closely related to the issue of national cultural identity in the context of globalization. This thesis mainly uses the post-colonial criticism theory of Homi K.Bhabha to analyze identities, crises and identities reconstruction of the main characters in the novel. This thesis consists of five parts. The First Chapter briefly introduces Celeste Ng and her novel Everything I Never Told You and conducts a literature review of relevant research results at home and abroad. It briefly summarizes the origin and development of identity theory and post-colonial theory and focuses on the post-colonial identity theory of Homi K.Bhabha.The following three sections are the doctrine of the dissertation. They present the crisis caused by the characters'ambiguous identities and the final effort for identities pursuits from the aspects of identity confusion, identity crisis, and identity reconstruction. The last part is the conclusion.By understanding the post-colonial identities in Everything I Never Told You,this thesis attempts to explain the significance of identity for a person.
