As the major Ci form of the Qing Dynasty,Ci-poetry began to revive and widely spread. The long-awaited Hunan Ci circle caught up with the trend of the time.As a cultural aristocratic family, the Yi family in Longyang valued the humanistic education and enjoyed strong cultural atmosphere.Under the influence of the timing and the family environment,Yi Peishen and his two sons were all good at Ci writing in Hunan province. They often engaged in Ci-related activities, making friends and travelling around, which paved the way for their association with Ci writers in and outside of Hunan. It not only integrates with the Hunan Ci circle, but also with the mainstream one, which promotes the positive interaction at large. In terms of the concept of Ci-ology,they inherited the tradition of emotional expression in the Song of Chu and Li Sao(The Encountering Sorrow),restoring the spirit of Ci style with lyricism, which was quite different from the ideological trends of dominating politica Ci-poetry back then;on the other hand, with regard to the adoption of Ci-ology,they were the good example for being open to new ideas and drawing on the strengths of others in the late Qing Dynasty. In terms of the Ci-poetry style, their style are generally less popular and more personal, showing both assimilation and dissimilation. The themes of their Ci-poetry are more related to “ Carefree Wandering”,the exchange of Ci-poetries between relatives and friends.Furthermore,Yi Peishen is more likely to use satirical words, but Yi Shunding and Yi Shunyu tend to use erotic words in their Ci-poetry As for artistic style, they all like something gorgeous and vigorous, but showing different featured styles due to different personal circumstances.Yi Peishen's Ci-poetry are bold and straight,Yi Shunding's are plaintive and clear, and Yi Shunyu's are powerful and sorrowful. They stood out among other Ci-writer families in Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty on the strength of their family culture, enjoyable geographical position of Hunan, and the right timing,it's worthy to speak highly of Family Yi for their achievements on ci-poetry in the late Qing Dynasty.
