A Comparative Study Of Chinese And Uyghur Mental Process In Ba Jin’s Home From The Perspective Of Systemic Functional Linguistics

Using the framework of systemic functional linguistics transitivity theory,this paper describes and analyzes the types and characteristics of psychological processes in Uyghur language,and employs the linguistic materials representing psychological processes in Chinese and Uyghur language to explain the similarities and differences in language structure between Chinese and Uyhgur from the perspective of language function.In this paper,we study the use of corpora using Ba Jin’s novel Home,comparing Chinese and Uyghur versions of the full text,and considering the following three aspects:first,Home is the famous contemporary Chinese writer Ba Jin’s masterpiece;of his "riptide trilogy" it is the most successful,selected in the top 100 Chinese novels of the 20th century;and it presents an outstanding description of the rise and fall of the feudal family.Secondly,the Uyghur translation of Home was translated by the famous Uyghur linguist Hamit Tomur;the translation quality is very high,and has been highly appraised by the academic community.Thirdly,Home is a novel with a large amount of corpus,among which the discourse on "mental process’ is rich enough to support the research of this paper.Based on the theoretical framework of functional linguistics and transitiveness,this paper uses the Uyghur and Chinese versions of Ba Jin’s Home as the corpus,selecting the texts(sentences)about psychological processes to establish a research corpus.This paper analyzes and studies four processes within the mental processes of Uyghur language,including the emotive processes,the desiderative processes,the perceptive processes and the cognitive processes.This paper classifies and describes the semantic configuration structure of the perceivers,phenomena and processes of the Uyghur mental processes,and compares the similarities and differences in the semantic configuration structure of Chinese and Uyghur mental processes.The paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter,"Introduction",summarizes the research purpose,research significance,related research achievements with regard to transitivity at Home and abroad,and introduces the research methods and existing problems.The second chapter,"Theoretical framework and corpus analysis",introduces the theoretical framework of Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics and transitivity system.The third chapter,"Analysis of Uyghur mental processes",uses the corpus of Ba Jin’s to construct a semantic configuration structure according to Uyghur mental processes based on the existing results of Chinese research.The fourth chapter,"A comparative study of the differences in psychological processes between Chinese and Uyghur",makes a comparative analysis of the semantic configuration of the psychological processes in Chinese and Uyghur and the transformation of the processes in translation through examples in the Chinese and Uyghur translations of the novel Home.The fifth chapter,"Summary",discusses the significance of the research results,summarizes the innovation and shortcomings of this paper,proposes the significance of this study in promoting the study of transitivity of Uyghur language,and summarizes the role of improving the teaching effect of Uyghur as a second language and the translation of Chinese into Uyghur.
