Research On The Theses Of International Students In The Double Degree Program Of "University Of Rome,Italy-BFSU"

As the academic education of international students in China goes better,the requirements for degree thesis of international students are becoming more and more strict.The degree thesis is much stricter in word count,language,and content than the basic writing style that international students have learned,so writing degree thesis is a considerable challenge for them.However.only few studies have focused on the degree thesis of undergraduate foreign students coming to China.and no scholars have specifically studied the degree thesis of undergraduate foreign students in double degree projects in China.But dual-degree programs have different training methods and curriculum arrangements with the ordinary education.Ifyou can research the degree thesis of students in dual-degree programs,it will help to provide valuable experience for the future academic students' essay wI.iting instruction.The Chinese Faculty of Beijing Foreign Studies University started earlier in the education of international students,and has accumulated rich experience in near 30 years'development.Especially in terms of degree thesis writing for international students,BF'SU is not only the earliest university in China to request undergraduate foreign students to write a degree thesis.but also the earliest university in China to develop an academic writing course for international students.Therefore,this paper selects the " Double Degree Program of Beijing Foreign Studies University-Rome University,Italy " as the research object.This paper analyzes the texts of 42 academic dissertations of students who have graduated from the "BFSU-RU" project.At the same time,a questionnaire was distributed to 24 fresh graduates.and inter-views were conducted with 6 fresh graduate thesis supervisors.Through the above research,the author concludes that:In terms of their thesis text,the students of the "BFSU-RU " project have a clear nationalized tendency on the thesis topic.for example,they showed more interests on literature and art topics than other undergraduate international students;also these papers have unreasonable parts in which the topic is not precise enough.The most popular research methods among Roman students are Literature collection method and comparative analysis;there are some problems that the total number of references is small.the number of references in foreign languages is more than that in Chinese and he resource level of reference materials is also uneven;there is another problem that their comparative study only list information but lack of real analysis and certain logic.Most Roman students'papers are concise and standardized,with fluent and clear expression,few grammatical errors.and a certain sense of formal written style,which basically meets the requirements of academic papers.but some of the papers still have the problems of obvious spoken characteristics.strong subjectivity.grammatical errors.wrong sentences,logical confusion between the sentences.wordy expressions,and so on.And according to the survey results of the students and their tutors,the factors like the poor Chinese foundation,insufficient understanding of degree thesis,and strong personality are both have affected the quality of their degree writing to a certain extent.Based on the above research,the author puts forward a series of suggestions to solve the problems existing in the degree thesis of the international students of the Rome project.
