During the two-year training of multilingual interpretation in Chinese-English and Chinese-German,the author found that interpreting in different language combinations may call for a particular strategic approach. This thesis stems from the author's thinking and reflection on this issueThe study aims to explore the influence of syntactic structure,in this case,English post-modifying clauses,on the choice of English-German and English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation strategies, and to discuss the similarities and differences between the two language pairs and provide reasonable explanations from a cognitive perspective.Hopefully, this thesis would provide an available reference for the training of multilingual interpreters and shed light on research in the comparison between language-pairs in SIThe corpus-based study follows two steps:a parallel analysis and comparative analysis Through the analysis of parallel texts, strategies used by German and Chinese interpreters will be detected and identified. In the comparative analysis, both the similarities and dissimilarities of the strategy use will be discussed. The author also endeavors to provide reasonable explanations from the perspective of information processing and cognitive load Through research and analysis, the author found that when dealing with post-modifying clauses,Chinese and German interpreters have different strategic approaches. While the Chinese interpreter relies mainly on morpho-syntactic transformation, restructuring, and paraphrasing,German interpreters tend to stick to the structure of the source text.Syntactic asymmetry imposes higher pressure on the cognitive load of the Chinese interpreter, which is also reflected in the higher frequency of information loss and errors. The results of the study indicate that syntactic structure is one of the factors that affect the simultaneous interpretation and strategy use.Interpreters should choose the strategy based on language-pair specificity and better distribute their energy...
