As a western translator and Imagist poet,Pound’s poem translation and writing interact with each other.First,Pound’s translation of classical Chinese poems demonstrates the features of his poem translation and poem writing at the same time.Second,his translation of poems deserves the same research value for world literature as his poem writing.Therefore,it is meaningful to study Pound’s translation.Also the studies of Pound’s translation should involve the influence from his poetics so as to broaden the research aspects.What’s more,Pound translated those classical Chinese poems which contain rich images and images are the core of Pound’s poetics.However “yixiang” in classical Chinese poetry differs from “image” in western poetry in definition and function.These differences cause discrepancies between Pound’s translation and Chinese translators’ translation,for Pound translated in the frame of image while Chinese translators translate in the frame of yixiang in which Chinese poets wrote poems.Thus to start with “image” in Pound’s poetics,we can discuss the influence of differences between “yixiang” and “image” upon Pound’s translation of classical Chinese poems by making a clear differentiation between these two concepts.We will analyze the translations in Cathay(1915)and have a look at how Pound translated classical Chinese poems which were written in the frame of yixiang with his idea of image. |
