Jia Pingwa,one of the representative writers of contemporary Chinese local literature,has created a large number of works.His works have been widely translated to France,Germany,Vietnam,Japan,North Korea and the like.In terms of English translations of his works,the situation is far from widely spread.Until 2017,Gaoxing was translated by overseas British sinologist Nicky Harman,and it was released on Amazon's 14 major sites in forms of paper and e-book.Since the publication of the English version of Gaoxing,it has been shortlisted for the Best Books of the Year of the Rooster of Asian Books Blog.Gaoxing uses a unique chit-chat narrative method.The storyline is composed of daily dialogue and inner monologues,and is mixed with many Shaanxi customs,idioms,dialects,and vulgar words.In addition,Jia Pingwa is good at using cultural imagery and four-character style to make his work colorful.Based on the writing characteristics of Gaoxing,this thesis focuses on the impact of ideology and poetics on elaborating translation.Under the guidance of rewriting theory,this thesis sorts out the relationship between patrons,ideology,and poetics in the English version of Gaoxing,and then analyzes the effects of social ideology,the translator's individual ideology,and poetic norms on rewriting phenomenon.And by observing the phenomenon of rewriting,this thesis finds that the translator has mainly adopted domestication-based with foreignization-assisted translation strategy,and the translator's subjective initiative isalso reflected in this strategy.The use of this strategy makes the translation in line with the reader's reading habits and achieves the interests of the patrons.The English version of Gaoxing has attracted the attention of overseas mainstream media and readers.What the purpose of Studying its rewriting phenomenon and focusing on the reasons for its success is to enrich domestic research on the English translation of Jia Pingwa's works.
