| Clifford Geertz,an American anthropologist,is the founder of interpretative anthropology theory.His interpretive anthropology theory combines an interdisciplinary macro view and a micro method of case study,which aims at exploring the deep meaning and expression of culture to realize the interpretation and meaning exchange of culture.As an enlightening cultural criticism and cultural research concept,interpretative anthropology has a profound and wide influence on contemporary humanities and social sciences."Thick Description" is the core concept of Geertz’s interpretative anthropology.However,most scholars have borrowed and used it as a ready-made concept all the time.They did not expound and develop its theoretical background,theoretical connotation and theoretical value deeply and systematically.In fact,"Thick Description" is an the complex network of interweaving humanism and scientism in the historical process.We need not only to grasp its existence mode from the perspective of scientism,but also to integrate "thick description" with its relevant theories,such as the relationship among literally criticism,literally theory and cultural research,so as to interpret its theoretical background,theoretical connotation and theoretical value.That is to say,the in-depth exploration of the concept of "Thick Description" is not only the key to grasp the theoretical system of Geertz’s interpretative anthropology,but also helps to understand the independence,self-sufficiency and rich connotation of this concept,and provides reference for the renewal of theories in the fields of literature and art,aesthetics,cultural research,cultural anthropology and so on.This thesis mainly takes the academic idea and method of "Thick Description"theory as the research object Based on rereading,perusal and intensive reading of texts,and on the premise of clarifying the relevant times background and ideological line,the thesis tries to present the theoretical connotation,theoretical position and theoretical enlightenment of "Thick Description" theory and Geertz’s cultural interpretation theory.The first chapter introduces the historical background and academic origin of Geertz’s "Thick Description" theory.At first,the introduction of new theory will definitely be influenced and restricted by the times and history.Getting rid of social and historical content to establish a theory is empty.Then,the changes in society have provided opportunities for academic transformation,so that academic theories can be updated and broken through.Finally,interpretative anthropology is not only the transcendence of traditional anthropology,but also the acceptance and absorption of reasonable factors in philosophical hermeneutics,sociology,linguistics and other disciplines.The exposition of interpretative anthropology means grasping "Thick Description" theory from the source of theory.The second chapter expounds the construction and connotation of Geertz’s"Thick Description" theory."Thick Description" is based on the revision and expansion of Ryle’s concept.This chapter is based on the reform and innovation,content,characteristics and research examples of "Thick Description" in order to construct Geertz’s "Thick Description" theory.The third chapter summarizes the theoretical position of Geertz’s "Thick Description".At first,the purpose of "Thick Description" theory is to construct cultural system and clear cultural concept.The first step in theory is to analyze and expound culture.Then,this chapter focuses on Geertz’s book " Works and Lives:The Anthropologist as Author "to discuss Geertz’s application of literary criticism and the internal relationship between "Thick Description" theory and literary criticism.Finally,as the central link of "Thick Description" theory,ethnographic writing expounds its evolution to enrich the theoretical framework of "Thick Description".The fourth chapter explores the influence and inspiration of Geertz’s "Thick Description" theory.The viewpoint contained in the theory of "Thick Description"deepens and specifies literary research and cultural research and enriches and expands the research space of literature and art and aesthetics.Finally,summarize the full thesis,and emphasize again that the viewpoints contained in Geertz’s "Thick Description" theory have profound methodological inspiration.At the same time,there are more values to be excavated in "Thick Description" theory. |
