Review Of Luo Ergang's History Studies

As a well-known historian since modern China,Luo Ergang worshiped Hu Shi as teacher in his early years and studied with the Qian Jia School's textual research.He is a standard textual scholar of the Republic of China.For the purpose of textual research,he had verified many important historical issues.He drew on the methods of Historical Materialism School.He drew a progressive conclusion that the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolution was "The Poor Peasant Revolution" in the Outline of The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History published during the Republic of China.Luo Ergang stayed on the mainland after the founding of the People's Republic of China.He transformed into a Marxist historian,and he created greater academic research's glories.He edited and published a large number of historical materials about the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom during the preparation of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Memorial Museum(later it was expanded into the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom History Museum),which provided a lot of original materials for the study of the history of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.Not only that,Luo Ergang published The History of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in his later years,creating a new style of history books about the "New Complex" after several major explorations.He made an indelible contribution to the development of the history of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.It was Marxism that had created the new glory of his research throughout the academic research of his life.It is worth noting that in addition to the research in the field of the history of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom,Luo Ergang also paid great attention to the study of the military system in late Qing Dynasty.He published The Hunan Army's Military Record,The Movement of the Nian Army,The Green Camp's Military Record and The Late Qing Army.He paid attention to research that "the army belongs to the state before the Hunan Army,the army belongs to the general after the Hunan Army" in his early days.He gradually reinstituted the research on the military system in late Qing Dynasty.He made an important contribution to the study of military system in late Qing Dynasty.Luo Ergang verified the author and original problems in The Water Margin with the methods of textu,al research.He also made remarkable achievements in epigraphy.He published The Correct and Compile Epigraph Lexicon to increase accuracy based on Yi Fengtang epigraphy rubbings.However,after to the paradigm of conversion to Marxism historiography,Luo Ergang still had some shortcomings in his academic research.The most obvious thing was that he beautified the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Revolution and even deviated from the actual situation.This was a universal condition after the founding of the People's Republic of China.But screened for virtue,the remarkable achievements of Luo Ergang's academic research left us with rich research results and academic experience.
