Research On Liang Baibo’s Comic Art

Liang Baibo(1911-1967)was born in Shanghai and traced her roots to Zhongshan,Guangdong.In the 1930s,she was a famous female cartoonist.Her achievements and influence were unparalleled by any other female cartoonist of her time.Liang Baibo’s career span of cartoon creation was concentrated and short.Her golden years of creation was in the 1930s.To be more exact,she reached her prime during the three years of 1935 to 1938,which overlapped with the golden period of the cartoon development in Shanghai and even the country at large.This thesis aims to conduct an objective analysis of the value of Liang Baibo’s cartoon art by studying her background and her cartoon works.Based on the cartoon creation of Liang Baibo,there are mainly four parts in this thesis.The first part analyzes the reasons for the formation of Liang Baibo’s comic art style from the historical background of Liang Baibo ’s times and her artistic process.The second part,as the main part of the thesis,starts with Liang Baibo’s comic works,analyzes the change of the theme of her cartoon art,further studies the art form and explores the characteristics of her cartoon works.The third part analyzes the formation of Liang Baibo’s concept of comic creation by combining with the special social and cultural environment in the 1930s.The fourth part compares Liang Baibo with the female painters and cartoonists of the same period,to further reveal Liang Baibo’s position in the history of Chinese female artists and Chinese cartoon.
