The Perspectives Of The Korea 3·1 Movement In Chinese Press(1919-1945)

From 1919 to 1945,the Korean 3·1 Independence Movement existed in Chinese newspapers and magazines for a long time,leaving abundant documents.Around the Chinese 5-4 Movement,the continuous attention of Chinese newspapers to the 3·1 Movement brought Korea,a country had been silent for ten years,into the Chinese people's eyes again,and deepened the Chinese people's sense of the trend of "national self-determination" in the world,while its failure revealed the narrowness and hypocrisy of the freedom and equality advocated by the imperialists.During this period,the dissatisfaction and strong sense of crisis against imperialism,warlord oppression made the progressive Chinese newspapers and magazines generally regard the 3·1 Movement as a discourse resource to stimulate the national awakening.In the late 1920s,in the face of Japanese militarism,"Anti-Japan" became a common goal of Chinese and Korean patriots.The narrative of the "3·1 Movement" in Chinese newspapers has undergone a change from "tragic" history to "struggle" history.With the outbreak of the Sino-japanese War and the International Anti-fascist War,the 3·1 Movement has attracted the attention and recognition again as the Anti-Japan movement of the weak eastern nations.At the same time,various Korean groups and political parties in China made efforts to achieve unity.On the other hand,after the Pacific war,seeking the recognition of the international community became the"urgent task" of the interim government of the republic of Korea.In such situation,"unity" and "founding a nation" became the commemorative articles of the 3·1 Movement in Chinese newspapers.In conclusion,during the first half of the 20th century,with the help of newspapers and periodicals,the 3·1 Movement has played an active role in the collective memory construction of Korean exiles,the propaganda of Korean national independence spirit,and the promotion of anti-japanese unity among east Asian ethnic groups.
