Based on Confucius' thoughts of Li,this paper argues that there is a essence and form in Confucius' Li,so it demonstrates the celestial morality of Li,the central virtue of Li,and the system of Li in forms, then classifies the Li of Confucius.Li contains three meanings, one is the inherent principle of the universe, the universe generates order and general rules; One is the central virtue, that inherent in the human heart.it is the destiny of nature, and the unification of all virtues, which Confucius put down to "Ren".One is the order of human relations, the system of moral integrity, etiquette articles, code of conduct, movements, instruments and customs.Though there are three righteousness, but they are all named Li.However, the principle of heaven and the central sentiment and righteousness are the overall root and internal basis of the Li.The first chapter of this paper first distinguishes "the origin of Li"from "the text of Li",and then proves the three meanings of Li with a large number of documents. It is believed that reason has the meaning of nature, the meaning of virtue and the meaning of form. This paper discusses the principle of Li in all the universe, and in the heart of human beings. At the same time,it also discusses the specific connotation of the three meanings of Li."The Tao of the Li",means the foundation of the creation of heaven and earth, and the inherent law of the universe."The virtue of the Li",that is,benevolence and righteousness, sincere respect, faithfulness, harmony and so on,which are the general terms of all morality.Generally speaking,we may call it "Ren"."The form of the Li",that is to say,the form of all the principles of the Li are al so in the text. The second chapter discusses the characteristics of Li and the relationship with Tao,then discusses the relationship between "Ren"and Li,then it discusses the relationship between propriety and temperament. Finally, the paper discusses the metaphysical root and internal basis of making Li.The form of Li is rooted in heaven, and the sage imitates heaven and earth to make it.The form of the Li is rooted in human, the sage according to the human nature to make it.The purpose of Li is to raise people. The third chapter of this paper discusses the problem of methodology. The thought method of this paper is the unity of heaven and human, the unity of nature and the form, the unity of Tao and implement. The fourth chapter of this paper discusses the important meaning of Confucius' Li,that is,to return to the heart,to enrich the Life of rites with "Ren',so that Li get the inner source of Life.It also discusses the meaning of the three meanings of rites, and holds that if one does not speak of the rites of heaven and morality, the rites will lose their formal root and have no basis. If we do not speak of the courtesy of virtue and righteousness, then the courtesy will lose its inner sense, but no true feeling. If you do not say the form of the ceremony, then there is no difference between the ceremony. Finally, this paper take Mencius and Xunzi as the representative, discusses the different connotations of the Li,they inherits different dimensions of Confucian Li.Mencius regarded Li as human virtue,Xunzi thought Li was made by saints.Mencius thought the Li was inherent in human heart and one of the four ends.Xunzi mainly developed the formal system of Li and thought that Li was the fundamental to the governance of the country and the security of the people. They from different angles to achieve the three meanings of the Li to perfection and development.
