This dissertation focuses on Sun Xu' s thesis along with his literary work and life.Thus demonstrate his artistic style and literary value through organizing his social relationships.To conclude,Sun' s literary thesis can be further presented as the inheritance of Confucian literature ideas and the development of retro trend and Neo-Confucianism.Being divided into four chapters,the first chapter starts with the process of Sun' s family moving to Gu Cheng city,and therefore forming a deep friendship with the Shen family.Also,the influence given by his family is considered.Then,several particular events,imperial examination for instance,of Sun Xu' s life are examined and archived.The second chapter reverts a full character of Sun out of his social connections with colleagues,relatives,friends who have close contact with Sun Xu,and historical figures who have a great influence on literature.By close reading mails,diaries and notes,demonstrate Sun' s private life as a friend,a family member and a man of honor.The third chapter moves to Sun Xu' s works.Starting from archive surviving and scattered works then analyse several specific works.This chapter is divided by genre,essays at first,introduces the creation of various styles,and therefore reveal the ideological proposal and writing techniques.Later on poems,present themes,emotions and artistic style in his retro trend.Moreover,to build a connection between his works and his personality.The fourth chapter takes various ideological trends in the 16th century literary into account,comparing Sun' s work in both diachronic and synchronic way,and clarifying whether his criticism of retro thoughts was directed against Li Mengyang.Even though Sun did not raise any insights,he was still able to have a clear awareness of the prevailing literary concept and dare to lay questions on it.
